Species text
Elaphropus (Tachys) parvulus is a very local predatory ground beetle, found over a widely scattered area in southern England, and also recorded in South Wales. It occurs at coastal sites, river shingle, the margins of lakes and gravel pits, gardens, rubbish tips, old walls and paths. It is found in locations with little or no vegetation cover, and probably also on bare sand in coastal situations and bare mud or soil by lake margins, but may adjacent scrub and tall grassland may be important for the species in winter and to escape late summer floods. Management should aim at maintaining open conditions and encouraging early successional stages (Hyman & Parsons, 1992). References
